Normal Pericardium

These digitized slides show an H&E and a Movat stain of normal human parietal pericardium. The dense eosinophilic layer of fibrous tissue is the fibrosa layer (which stains yellow in the Movat stain). Fibroblasts are easily seen in the fibrosa layer. The top layer shows mesothelial cell lining (blue brackets). The mediastinal layer of the pericardium shows adipose tissue and some arteries and veins.
